On March 9, the “Biedrība” club will have its rare chance to hear and see a latvian singer living in New York, Arta Jēkabsone. She will perform in quintet, along with the Latvian pianist and composer Krists Saržants. In concert, musicians will show both Arts and Krist’s original compositions and arrangements.

Arts Jēkabsone is a vocalist, composer and arrenger. She is the winner of a number of international vocal contests, including Montreux Shure Jazz Voice Competition 2016 and 3 rd place Annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Voice Competition 2021. The Latvian singer living in New York City pleases audiences with true feelings of happiness in music, the sounds of jazz music and Latvian folklore music converge in her compositions. Her album, “Light,” as well as the project “Reflections,” is rimmed with warmth, personality and intimacy, light and hope. Arta regularly presents its new works at The Jazz Gallery, one of New York’s most demanding jazz clubs. Quite recently, Arta was rewarded with the Jazz Gallery Residency Commission Grant 2021 to present its latest concert programme “Searching For a Song”.

Krists Saržants is a composer-pianist of jazz, contemporary and intergenre music. During a concert in Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Germany, the United States and other countries, he has worked with musicians and compositions such as Latvijas Radio bigend (LV), Kenneth Dahl Knudsen (DK), Rob Duguay (US), Yacine Boularès (US), Konstantins Jemeļiānovs (LV/US) and many others. As well as he has worked with some most known musicians of Latvia, Ivo Fomins, Renārs Kaupers, Aija Andrejeva, Andrejs Osokins and others. The recordings of the musician’s quintet were presented at the largest European jazz fair, “Jazzahead!” 2017 and included in the compilation albums “Jazz in Latvia 2018” and “Jazz in Latvia 2020”. On 30 May 2020, Krists release his debut album, “Then and Now”, with the involvement of Danish drummer Matthias Fisher-Mogensen, Latvian musicians Evilena Protector, Davis Jurka, Andris Grunt, guitarist Marcis Auzins, singer Ieva Kervica, Latvian National Opera solist Laura Grecka, as well AS other musicians of the LNOB Symphony Orchestra, Latvijas Radio bigband, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and many other collective music musicians. It was nominated for the 2021 Latvian Music Records Annual Award “Zelta mikrofons” in the category “Jazz or Funk Music Album.”
